Use of data warehousing in health care

Question for all: My experience in health care has principally been with an HIS (eg. Meditech), but I am in the process of developing a model for a health care data warehouse and I don't believe the HIS is the appropriate place to store patient data. Any opinions?<br>
Also, what has anyone else seen in the way of warehouse implementation in health care? Any successful models out there?<br>
