Hey, Running windows 98 and Excel 2000. I created an application using Excel. One of the things this program does is it opens a file on the network. For now I use the drive letter F: to set the path but I would like to use the drive label so that my program works on every computer. The label is comprised of the name of the drive and the server its on EX: Common on 'Pentd01'.

I hope this is clear

\\Pentd01\the_entire_folder_path\file_name.ext

Hi ETID Thx for the reply. There is more than one drive for server Pentd01. Userhome, Software and Common. I'm interested in the common drive. Could I use Pentd01 alone?

Thx

Not to point to a specific file...

if the folder has a "share name" then you need only the share name.

\\share_name\file_name.ext

else

\\Pentd01\common\file_name.ext
