Has anyone successfully used an i2050 using a Nortel VPN client to the bcm50e.
I have used the Nortel VPN client software on the 200/400 and it works fine but it will not work on the BCM50e. I have Nortel working on it but was hoping someone has done it already.

BCM50e only supports branch office tunnel terminations, at least in todays release. Haven't heard any talk of making the 50 terminate client connections as of yet.

It's amazing how Nortel neglected to mention that.

The router in the 50e is essentially a Contivity 221 - the one in the 50a is essentially a Contivity 251.

Surprised they didn't mention that right off the bat. I think it's mentioned in the BCM 50 Networking guide. Depends who you get on the other end of the phone I guess.

I am certified on the BCM50 and the Contivity 221/251. Nowhere in the documentation does it mention that the i2050 will or will not work at a remote location.
I have a case open with Nortel and you would think that they would have told me that from the beginning. I will let them work at it and see if they come up with some sort of solution and if they can't they should fix that in release 2.

I found that info in the BCM50 interoperability guide. But Nortel emailed it to me. I didn't know that info until they told me and I read it in the guide.

Just checked and it's the BCM 50 Integrated Router guide. This is the actual wording:

The BCM50e Integrated Router supports the following VPN applications.
• Linking Two or More Private Networks Together
Connect branch offices and business partners over the Internet with significant cost savings and
improved performance when compared to leased lines between sites.

Kind of funny - the docs for the BCM 50 router are identical to the 221 docs. I made the same mistake myself when the 221 first came out - company had to eat a couple hundred bucks to get the customer a Contivity 1010.

The i2050 will work at a remote site, but they just neglect to mention how it will work. :)

DigitelD:What info are you talking about? I could not find a BCM50 Interoperability guide anywhere in the documents.

This is something that Nortel sent me. I don't know where to find it. I have not found it anywhere on their site.
