i've got a headset that works on a 7316. but those phones have a headset-specific button, the 7324's don't. it's a fellows monaural e250x. there is no switch on the headset. just a cord straight to a headset. if the headset is not plugged in, and i hit handsfree/mute, the speakerphone comes up. if it IS plugged in, and i hit handsfree/mute, nothing happens.

The headset will work on the 7324 just fine if it works on the 7316. Auto Handsfree should be programmed to the phone and the button 'handsfree/mute' should be in place on the bottom right. Check by pressing F*0 and then the bottom right button and read the screen.

all that is set correctly. if the headset is not plugged in, and i hit handsfree/mute, the speakerphone comes up. if it IS plugged in, and i hit handsfree/mute, nothing happens.

actually, *something* happens. the arrow comes up next to handsfree/mute like the prime line has been selected. but no audio in the headset. i know the headset's not bad, since it works on the 7316.

With the headset plugged in the hands free should not activate the speaker phone. Try turning up the volume on the 7324 when H/F Mute is pressed. What make and model is the headset? If it isn't a Plantronics or a GN Netcom 'Liberation' Direct for Norstar, then I would refer back to the manufacturer.

Sounds like it's wired screwy. That headset may require an amplifier to run on the M series phones. It shouldn't need one, but it sounds like it does or the wires are not in the right places.

it's a fellows monaural e250x." i know the speakerphone should be off if the headset is plugged in, i just referenced it to point out that there IS a different behavior when it's plugged in. having said that, it seems like a phone issue to mee, too. i mean, the headset is not getting enough volume. because the arrow shows up next to the handsfree/mute button like it's picking up a line, but it cannot be heard through the headset.

the headset usually has a headset on/off button ...make sure that is in the ON position. then hit the handsfreebutton of the phone, now you should be able to talk in the headset

some headsets work without amps ..., depends on the model

there is no switch on the headset. just a cord straight to a headset.

did you try it on any other 7324? Maybe that one has a bad HS jack.
