use dell dimension8100 as a server?

I would like to know if you can use a dell desktop as a server,and use windows 2k server as the o/s? If you have any helpfull info it would be great.

I don't see why you couldn't. I don't think Dell will install server software on a non server. But other than that it should be OK.

I know people that are running 2000 Server on laptops so they can demo software.

I don't think it's a particularly good idea for any production environment. Most workstations are not built to the specs of a server: drive capacity, array's, etc...

ok I have a 40 gig hard drive and my next problem is how hard is windows 2k server to set up, and is it like windows 2k pro? PLEAZE HELP ME I have learned how to write HTML and was wondering if it was possible

Win2K is easy to setup, just follow the screens. Install in Mixed-Mode and don't make it a Domain Controller.
