I doing a clean install of Windows XP Pro but it is using c:\windows by default, whereas I would like to use c:\winnt. There are no options to change this during the installtion - do I need to run setup at a command line with some options specified?

Thanks very much.

Install 2000 then do an upgrade is the only option I know..

But i think if you use the unatteneded isntall there might be a setting in that setup

I think it might be enough if you have a folder on your hard drive that is called Windows the setup should let you chose where to install it.

So if you fdisk your hard drive format it with fat 32 and the create a folder called windows it should work.

Thanks Jump1ng I'll give that a bash.

I believe that if u want it to say winnt that u must format the drive using ntfs instead of fat32. since ntfs is used in nt and 2000 i belive that should solve your problem.

The options to install Windows into a different named folder are presented in the Advanced Install Options of Setup under certain circumstances only.

You can do the same with XP and then delete the original installation.
