Hello,

I'm trying to use a subreport as a filter.

I want use a selection criteria in a main report send the account numbers it comes up with to the subreport so the subreport can then filter those down more for use.

I'd like to do this without using the Subreport in the Detail section.

This involves over 100,000 records, so a StringVar / Split Parameter won't work.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

You need to provide more information for anyone to help. Why do you need these two layers of filters? Why can't you do this in the main report? What are you grouping on in the main report? There might be another approach.

I need the two layers because I'm using two databases with a one to many relationship and putting this all in the main report makes the report take 15 hours to run.

The final selection searches 1600+ combinations of 5 fields to group the records into 25 Departments, and then checks to make sure an action happened in a certain date range. The criteria for the action also has to go through the 1600+ combinations.

So, I want to use a simple selection to get the main subset of data I'll need because the simple selection will run in 5 minutes. Then I want to filter that down and add the second database.

I wonder whether you could do this more efficiently in a command. Do the databases use the same driver? In a command you can apply some selection criteria right in the From clause while maintaining left joins, which makes for much speedier reports. If the databases use the same driver, this may be the best way to go.
