SiiG USB2.0+1394 DV Kit - Computer freezes when I install???

Just bought it from PC World. When I install this into my Athlon 800 Win XP SP 1 the computer boots up and then freezes at the end of the boot up.

I have all the Specs it says on the box but it wont work. When I remove it all is OK. I have tried to change PCI - no change.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

What drive do you have in the SiiG USB2.0+1394 DV Kit? Is it set for "master"? Certain chips in the external BIOS had problems, SP-2 fixed this. Have you tried the "box" on andifferent computer?

I am not too sure what you mean. Set to master? The last time I tried SP2 it screwed my sys up totally, and this manual said that all I need was SP 1.

The spec of the PCI card is:

I know the ALI chipset is really bad, but i have heard that there can be probs with the via combo cards too.
I had that prob with the ALI and i have an MSI NEO2. Mine kept booting my pc in an endless cycle. I changed pci slots and it didnt matter. I never did install SP2 as i have held off as i heard so many probs with it. I will start installing SP2 pretty soon, they should have it in good shape by now. At least im hoping that the one you can download now is different from and better than the original SP2.
I would suggest you return the card and get one with a NEC chipset on it.

Sorry - mis-understood your post, I thought you were trying to install an external USB2.0/Firewire drive. In this case: unplug any USB or firewire devices you may be using. Go into Device Manager and delete all USB and Firewire references. Put card in and reboot. Windows should re-install all the USB and Firewire ports. You may have a problem with the current USB ports interfering with installing IRQ's for the new ports. Don't worry, if the board is defective just pull it back out - reboot - and Windows will put the original port references back in.

micker377, we knew that, lol!
Thats not as bad as me talking about an 80 pin ide cable, lol.

Finally got fed up and took the combo card back and swapped it for a Firewire only card.

problem solved :)

Big thanks for all your help though.

thats just what i did. But i put the combo card in a different mobo and it worked fine.

I heard that one can mess with irq's sometimes and get it to work properly.

But in the future look for the NEC chipset and all should be well, they are about the best.
