How can I tell if I have USB 1 or 2 capabilities on my mobo?
Is USB2 really that much faster?
Can you attach a USB1 hub to a USB2 hub to expand the number of devices you use and as an extension?
Look for the words "standard enhanced" USB, in the device manager, this indicates USB2 status.
PCI USB2 cards are extremely cheap and easily fitted (they plug and play without the need even to install drivers) under W2K and XP (later service packs installed)

If you want usb2 then all you have to do is get a pci usb2 card as paparazi mentioned. Even if your motherboard doesnt support usb2 you can still have usb2 with the pci card. They are fairly easy to install. With win xp you have to have service pack 1 installed. There are requirements for win 98 and usb2 as well, you can find them at microsoft or at usbman.com.
You can get a 2 port or 4 port pci card and use your usb2 hub on that pci usb2.0 card to give you more ports if need be. Hopefully the usb2 hub is powered, but if not you can still install things like usb mice and keyboards on them and thumb drives. Either way it will give you more flexibility as you can also get a usb external box for around $30 to $40 and put a hard drive in it for data storage, mp3's etc.
If you do, remember that when you have thumb drives and hard drives in external usb boxes that you have to temporarily disable them before you shut your pc off or to reboot, otherwise you can have damaged files. You will find an icon in your system tray to do that with. You can also read more about that at usbman.com.
Good luck.
