I've got a windows XP machine with a linksys USB wireless adapter. As recommended, I installed using XP instead of the linksys wizard.

I've got WEP running and can access shares and the internet but occasionally i get a disconnect or work offline message. I have to select the ssid again and connect.

I see several other SSIDs that are appearing. Could this be the conflict?

Thanks

Yes.

1. Update your wireless software for XP:
2. Change channels on both router and client. Try 1 or 11, channel 6 sounds crowded for you.

3. Disable on the client 802.1x authentication

4. In the XP configuration, add only your router/Access Point by name, remove any others, in the bottom section "Preferred Networks"

5. Set the wireless configuration to association only with Preferred Networks, only Access Points.

Thanks bcastner

I had changed the SSID but i think i did leave the channel as 6.

I do have number 4 and 5 set up properly but 2 and 3 along with the hotfix are the trouble areas.

Thanks
Mauricio

I do have the router with an SSID and it is enabled.

On the XP Client when i open it up to check configurations i don't see where the channel can be changed. Am i missing something?

Thanks for your help

Actually looks like everything is working now. I guess with XP you don't get a channel when you set it up for XP to handle connection for you.

Thanks
