Can Some one please tell me wether it is or is not possible to convert a VGA moniter to USB to create a cheap alternative to docking

try getting a KVM switch and connect through that. There are many brands/styles/configs of them avail and I am fairly certain you can find one that will fit your budget and needs.

I think he's got a laptop w/o a video out port? I've never seen a usb video device, and quite frankly I'd be really surprised if one exists, as to me the architecture is not capable of running the video through the usb port.

Thanks Kofy. I wish to clarifiy: i have a laptop with a VGA port but i find that docking stations are prohibitibly expensive and so am amming to create a usb docking port so that i can plug 1 usb lead into my Laptop and connect the following: 1 TFT Moniter, 1 wireles Keyboard Mouse Combi, 1 wireles ethernet port via PCMCIA

Just to point out - of those hundreds of USB based KVM switches available (including the one linked above), they all still use the standard vga monitor cable for video which must be plugged into the video card, not the usb port.

What you're looking to do, a KVM switch would be a waste of money, because those are designed to hook multiple computers up to one keyboard, monitor, and mouse. Instead, how about just a simple usb hub? There are wireless usb keyboard/mouse combos & I think you can get usb ethernet stuff.

You're not going to get away with usb video, though, so you're always going to have to plug the monitor directly into your laptop. You can reduce it down to two, depending if you can find usb wireless ethernet or not.

thanks alot i just thought scince u could get USB projectors i could get away with it

From what I can find out there; the usb projectors only allow you to _control_ the projecter's functionality through the usb port, not supply the video input through it.
