Any feedback on using a USB to serial adapter to program Legend or Magix (admin port). Does it work, do certain makes work ......??????

i have been using one on my laptop for the last 2 years since my serial port blew, its a belkins F5U103 using xp/pro no problems

I havee one that works great. It is a generic one I git from a local computer store. I am running XPpro. It is possible that there might be a computer operating system issue on older versions of Windows, but I would expect that you should not have a problem if you computer supports USB correctly

One word of caution - - The way I blew my serial port was to accidentally plut it into an MLX port when I was trying to do ADMIN - NOT GOOD !

You could try BAFO, they are fairly cheap, and I've been using them for over a year on XP Pro SP-1 and SP-2. The 800 is for a DB25 adapter, and the 810 is for a 9 pin adapter (if you want to get one for other stuff). They run about $25 each. I still use the 355 adapter on the end of the DB 25 adapter....just in case.
