I have had 3 out of 6 different flash drives that seem to just become unrecognizable. I always select the unload icon down in the quick start tray before I take them out.

Some of my flash drives are just not recognized and sometimes the system identifies it then gives a driver missing. they are 3 different manufacturers. I am plugging them into the same USB slots I have been using and they are USB 2.0

I wonder if I might have deleted some hidden files or over loaded the directory.

Can they be initialized again?

I have backups of most of the data but hate going through determining what is on the drives. The additional help message is not helpful.

Any help is appreciated.

Yes, three different systems both front & back USB connections at 2.0 level.

It seems to be a format/driver problem and I do not know how to reformat those drives since I can't even get them to recognize the drives.

I teach computer systems with 46 years of experience and still I don't know it all.

Thanks for any feed back.

If they aren't being recognized in any of the machines, then indeed that is a bit of a problem. Do you have a linux live CD? It might be worth seeing if they are visible there, and trying to format them.

Do the drives show up under computer management in windows?

If the above fail, then the drives are probably 'toast'.

They do not show up in my computer. I can't get a pointer to them. The system recognizes that I inserted a USB devie then says they are rejected and yhey don't show up any where, Example: Win-Explorer or under My Computer.

Before actually putting the time of death donw in ink.

Have you tried going into Disk Management see if they show up there?
Assuming your trying this on Windows XP or later,
Right Click on my computer, click on Manage.

Scroll down to Disk Management. Are they there?

If they are there you may be able to format them form there.
