USB SiS 7001-not detecting

I have recently upgraded to XP Pro. I didn't do my homework beforehand I guess, because now I find that my USB refuses to find new hardware. I have tried the USB2 patch from SiS, I've reinstalled XP, I've tried removing the devices and letting them be reinstalled.

The root hub and PCI to USB open host controller are installed for each port automatically. I have a home built system with 2.4g P4, 512M DDR333, 8x AGP,and SiS 7001 USB chipset on the motherboard. All devices built in and installed so far work except for USB.

Thanks for any help.
