Hi...

I currently have 2 onboard usb ports that I am using. One for the mouse, and the other gets a hub that I connect my keyboard and headset to. Today, for some reason, I was playing a game and they both just shut off, stopped. No lights anywhere. So I took it as one of those weird one time things, and restarted. Opened IE, and the port the mouse was plugged in cut off. Ive tried several things since, but that one port keeps just cutting off for no reason. This computer has had no problems of any kind for well over 6 months now. Just up and did it today. Any insight or help in this situation would be appreciated :) . Thanks

Is this Windows XP? Windows XP has a feature which allows itself to turn off devices to save power. Right click on My Computer and select properties, then click on the hardware tab. Click on the Device Manager button in the middle. This will bring up a list of all the hardware installed in your system. Now look toward the bottom and find Universal Serial Bus Controllers. Click the + to bring down the list. Then right click on each individual usb device and select properties. There will be a power management tab. If you click on it you will see an option to allow Windows to shut down the device to save power. If its checked uncheck it. Do this with each device but, you should really only do this on the usb ports that are being used. So that you don't waste power.

Had similiar prob with mouse (no hub) on user's sys. Was able to correct by removing usb and mouse in device mgr and then rebooting. Follow steps given by jsauce to get to devices, right click on them and uninstall. Then reboot sys. Also, while I haven't seen it, some tech docs indicate hub can cause probs. Try removing it. Will mean loosing headset for a while but will remove hub from equation.
