USB - Serial lead Installation

Hi all - We have a prolific USB to RS232 cable. I am installing on an IBM S40 which has no serial ports.

I am getting thhe trouble, where the installation of the cable says it has worked but in device manger it shows an exclaimation mark - with error code 31.

There are no resource conflicts.

I had trouble with this same setup on a previos IBM S40 / Prolific cable - but on my S40 the cable installed perfectly - any ideas?

The O/S is Win 2000. - All 3 IBM S40's are of the same spec, one works fine, one works but I had trouble installing it (can't remember what I did), the 3rd wont install the cable properly - any ideas?

Indicates a port allocation failure...Failed to allocate a parallel port through the Operating System's parallel port contention handler.
(AS if you didn't know that already!)
This could be deep and dark...like registry edit...
Hate these extra port installs!
May have to manually set the com port.
