I have a photocopier with a USB interface.. toshiba copier. when I try to install the driver I recieve access denied 0x00000002 Being Vista and still not that old on the market, the manufacturer still hasn't had an updated driver for vista yet and as of yet won't support it. Anyone got any suggestions on how to fool Vista into using an XP or 2003 driver?

If an O/S either does not support a device's driver or does not have a native driver for the device, then you either have to wait for the device's manufacturer to come out with a compatible driver for the O/S or buy a device that the O/S supports.
There's no way to trick the O/S into using a driver that it does not support.

...and don't expect Toshiba to fall over itself getting a driver ready for Vista for their older hardware...there's nothing in it for them. If they develop a new driver, you won't have to buy a new copier.

This is my fundamental gripe w/ Vista...hardware incompatibility. MS has drawn a line in the sand and said "everything before this gets no support". I am hopeful that there will be some compromise soon for us owners of perfectly good older hardware- but don't hold your breath.

Yes you could probably get it to work in XP installed as a virtual OS (MS Virtual PC is free) but that's a lot of work for a little benefit.

'Sometimes' you can trick it into working by using a driver from the same manufacturer, but a different model in the line (assuming that model is supported).

It rarely works well, but sometimes you can get lucky.

Carlsberg don't run I.T. departments, but if they did they'd probably be more fun.
