Anyone have a clue if there is anything special that must be done to have an old Pentium Pro 180MHz Win98SE machine talk to a LexMark X83 USB printer?

The motherboard does not have onboard USB, so I installed a PCI USB card in the hopes that it would still work. The port setting is LPT1, but there is no option for [adding a] USB port.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. :)

Do you know if the USB is even working? Go into Device Manager, scroll down to the bottom and you will see if the USB is being recognized and if there are any problems (yellow exclamation point). Also, is the PCI USB card USB1 or USB2? Is the printer USB1 or USB2? My son-in-law used a Lexmark with 98 for over a year ('till the ink ran out and the cartridge costs more than a new printer) with no problems. On the printer port (Lpt1), go into advanced to see if there is any setting for USB. Another thing to check, even though the mobo doesn't have a USB port, Windows 98 still needs the USB drivers turned on. This should be installed along with the software for your board. You may get a message "Please insert your Windows disc" when installing your new board.
