We have AOPEN 945 and 965 computers that we provide customers. A lot of our customers use multiple devices and it causes usb problems, specifically usb capture cards (ADS VideoExpress). It seems like the ADS VideoExpress uses 500ma. The capture card either will shutdown after sometime and you have to unplug and then plug back into computer to recognize it or it will just cause the computer to reboot when you start it. We tried plugging the capture card into a usb hub with power and still no luck. Is there a device that gives usb more power or a industrial usb hub that would solve the problem? I am out of solutions.

Thanks

Dimitry...

Have you seen those USB cables that power small hard drives that use (2) source USB connectors going into a singe output? Sort of a "Y" connector. It seems all the 2.5" HDD cases I've bought come with one. I haven't seen one by itself, but the cases all cost $10 or so and the cable is included. I'll bet one of these would supply enough power.

I had the same thought, then re-read the post...

I tried the y usb power cable and that seemed to work. What was interesting is that this problem does not happen on regular computers which are not mini such as Dells. I guess it has something to do with the power supply provided from the motherboard.
