Ok gang, I could use a little help as i am stumped on this one. I have an Acer 9503EWSMi notebook. Recently the USB ports started to randomly fail on me. I would just be clicking away with my mouse (either my old wired ball mouse or my wireless Logitech mouse) and it would just stop working. Once I reboot my machine, they work fine again for a while.

What i have done:
- I have checked device manager and all USB drivers and what not are there and all of them are up to date
- I have uninstalled all of the USB drivers and rebooted the notebook and they all reinstalled normally but still the same problem
- Run all my anti-virus / malware / spyware scans and she is clean as a whistle

Anyone have any suggestions?

I've had this when I put certain devices in certain ports.

For example, if I put my SD card reader in USB 1, then my mouse would stop working. Reboot, both ok. But put the mouse in a different port and it would be fine????

So do you have any other USB devices?

If so try unplugging them and replace one at a time and each time allow it time to "fail".

It may be a simple case of swapping them round until it works. or find out why the offending one screws the others.

Only the truly stupid believe they know everything.
