I have recently purchased a USB 2 pen drive backwards compatible with USB 1.1.
The pen works OK when used in a USB 2 port.
When plugged into a USB 1.1 port the system recognises the drive but doesn’t display a drive letter. All the other drive letters are as they should be.

Why not just use it with just a USB 2.0 port?
The data transfer rate for USB 2.0 is about 40 times as fast as compared to USB 1.1

Check out the xp forum.

Does the system with the USB 1.1 port alread have a drive F: (either network or multiple CD's)?

I have seen that the USB drives want to always go in as drive F: even if there already is a drive F:

To fix this I go into Drive Manager (in Computer Management) and reassign the drive letter.

once you go into "My Computer" and see all the drives...if you don't see your USB drive just go on top and hit VIEW/REFRESH...or right click and hit refresh and your USB drive should come up..

same thing happens to my computer..
