I have a USB optical mouse that came with a USB to PS/2 converter. The only problem is I use an external keyboard on my laptop and it uses the PS/2 connection. So I used a PS/2 to 9-pin connector hoping I could connect into COM1 since my old PS/2 uses this connector and works just fine on COM1. But the optical mouse does not work. I am thinking that the optical mouse cannot work on a COM port because I don't think the 9-pin connection provides the +5 volts like the PS/2 connection does. I am tempted to build a connector that uses the +5 volt lead from the PS/2 port but uses COM1 to transmit the data. That way I can have the keyboard still use the PS/2 port and the mouse will be able to use COM1. Does any one have any suggestions???
