USB mouse under X and console

Hi!

I've read the X documentation at

But the mouse only moves vertically. I've rewriten the InputDevice section from scratch, using IMPS2 as the protocol and /dev/input/mice after reading acording to

http://www.linux-usb.org/USB-guide/x194.html

But the mouse only moves vertically... If I use the protocol "usb" the xserver tells me "Unrecognized protocol" and if I use "auto", it says "Can't determine the protocol".
