Hi folks,

I just put together some parts of a quite old PC (Pentium 2/3 700 Mhz) under Windows 2000.

It has a bios option for USB mouse support I can set either to "OS" or to "BIOS".

No matter what I try he won't recognize the mouse under Windows. I tried an optical genius mouse as well as a non optical standard Logitech mouse and last but not least even a bios Upgrade.

Any ideas how I can solve this issue ?

Regards
Thomas

Get the system to work first. Try to get Windows to work with a PS2 mouse, maybe that your mouse has an adapter to allow a connection to a PS/2 port.

You have to find if the USB port works correctly.

Once you're in Windows check in the Device Manager if the USB controller is present and if it sees it as functioning correctly. If it does, try connecting any USB peripheral (like a USB memory key) in it to see if Windows detects it.

Also, the mouse and keyboard USB support may be supported only on certain USB ports. (this is both BIOS and hardware dependent) Make sure that you are connecting to the right ones.

Do what felixc said. That is what I would do first.
Check the usb ports and the usb in the device manager first.
If those are working, you may need a driver update or a driver for the usb mouse.

I would go along with the above post's. If the USB ports are not active, you can't use anything USB. Get the drivers from the motherboard manufacturers website.
