If I import wab address book the eject or stop will not close--says come back later. When the close does work [other than wab]I never get "safe to remove" message--the icon just goes away.

Right-click your storage device drive icon/ Properties/ Hardware/ ( Select your device from list)/ Properties/ Policies.

Of the two options for Write Caching and Safe Removal, what have you got checked there?

You do not receive the "Safe to remove hardware" message when you click the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in Windows XP

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

Linney - another great post [star]!

If write-caching is disabled, is it truly unnecessary to click "Safely Eject Hardware"?

If so, that's a big time saver! ...what if you have a file open/in use that's stored on the Jump Drive at the time you pull it?

Thanks,
Rick

That is my interpretation.

"If so, that's a big time saver! ...what if you have a file open/in use that's stored on the Jump Drive at the time you pull it?"

The only time saver part of it would be the disconnecting. The actual writing would be slower without "write caching", I imagine?
Any disconnection while in use would be fatal, watch for any flashing lights to indicate use.
