What is the maximun length of an USB cable?

I believe it is 5 meters.
They do make extenders with built in repeaters that you can chain together for increased distance, such as this one....

I've also used some USB adapters before. Basically run a CAT5 and at each end, use an adapter that converts the CAT5 into a USB plug. Works well up to about 100 meters, anything over that sees the USB device but can't 'talk' to it..I got mine from a company called GBS in australia.
