Strange one: I've literally peformed hundreds and hundreds of similar processes over the years. However, I'm trying to boot from a CDROM and load Windows setup to perform a clean install. But my usb keyboard does NOT function. The Windows install prompt asks for several confirmations and selections which is impossible to do without a way to respond. Both the USB nor the wireless keyboard/mice will not respond. Reboot from the hdd and all is normal.

Anyone have any ideas and/or suggestions? Thanks. [ponder]

OK - 1st change.
Plugging the USB keyboard into a REAR USB port now makes the keyboard functional. But at the same prompt screen still nothing. This is the Windows 7 installation accept EULA and nothing I can do will acknowledge that prompt.

Set your BIOS to use Legacy USB devices.

Chris.

Good suggestion. Already done... If fact I couldn't even boot from the DVD without first enabling Legacy BIOS.

On older motherboards, this can be troublesome at times. It seems it's only been in the last handful of years that motherboards began supporting USB keyboards WELL for BIOS and initial Windows installs.

One thing I would probably try, assuming the BIOS has the option, is to change the option for whether the BIOS or OS has to enable devices. I forget what it's called off-hand (sorry, not looking at the BIOS, and have somehow managed to not look at a BIOS in any depth in months).

If that doesn't work, I'd also try checking through the different options for chipsets, USB devices, etc. Some BIOS settings are more detailed than others, and some are more quirky than others, in my opinion.

Additional thanks. As I found on the HP support site and provided by Intel it appears that the included MB only supports USB3 and windows 7 ISO does NOT contain any USB3 drivers for the install. Hence, no kybd/mouse. Intel did provide a procedure to update the ISO and reburn a bootable media. But in the interest of time I simply booted from a Zorin-9 Linux DVD and it found EVERYTHING and works like a charm. I still need various Windoze instances to support some of my clients but for everything else I'll be sticking with Linux.
