When i turn on my computer, system reads both keboard and mouse but when the Windows XP screen appears, keboard and mouse turn off (freezes) before booting is completed.

Any ideas?

Unplug the mouse and then reboot, if it is still the same unplug the keyboard and plug in the mouse and reboot.

This is a Signature and not part of the answer, it appears on every reply.

This is an Analogy so don't take it personally as some have.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

Check the system BIOS and make sure the USB settings are enabled there.

Possibly simplest would be to try a different mouse/keyboard and see if things change.

Remove and reinstall the USB drivers - Go to Device Manager and remove all USB hub/root hub entries that you can and let Windows reinstall the drivers by doing a scan for new hardware or reboot. Note that this will disable all devices connected to USB. Do a safe removal of external storage or other devices first.

If your computer starts locking up during/before POST (the black screen when you turn on your computer) then it is probably a hardware problem with USB.

A selection of things for you to look out.

You could try uninstalling the USB root hubs (Device Manager) that show on your machine. Reboot and let XP rediscover the ports.
