I'm looking for a better solution. I have a XP pc connected to my router through an ethernet cable. I have a Win 2000 PC on another floor of my home which connects to the internet using a usb adapter (wusb12). I am only 1 floor down form my wireless router. The max I get is 40% connectivity. I would prefer to connect directly to the router, however that is not an option. The router was set up through the XP PC upstairs.
My wife has a linksys pci card on here laptop and she gets much better connectivity than me and she is one floor lower. Any options for me other than usb.

Err, let me get this straight:
XP PC -> cable -> router.
Win2000 PC -> USB wireless -> router.
Laptop -> PCI wireless? -> router.

Now the system you use is the Win2000 PC with the wireless router.

Now 40% connectivity... are you talking only using 40% of your broadbands bandwidth, or only 40% of the wireless bandwidth?

Remeber you internet access is only going to be as fast as your connection.

If its wireless connectivity (i.e. lost data packets) consider altering the angle of the aerial on your router (assuming its wireless) as the standard pole aerials have dead zones above and below them, and you seem to be working over several floors.

If not you may consider moving your usb computer or routers physical location to improve transmission power.

Can you provide more info, perhaps model number of router and USB adapter and PCI card?
