I wanted to produce a self-running PowerPoint show on a USB stick to give away at a conference.
After some research, I found that MS Windows wouldn't recognise a USB autorun.inf file with an EXE in it and self-run, like a CD/DVD drive would. Nevertheless, I produced an autorun.inf file with icons and actions, etc. The pop-up box appeared and the first option was to launch the PP viewer with my show.

I then passed this over to a Chinese manufacturer to load this onto 400 1GB USB sticks.
When I got the stick back, after I plug it in to my Win XP system, the system firstly recognises the USB stick then recognises a DVD drive! And then automatically loads the PowerPoint show!!
In my Windows Explorer, I have 2 new entries - the Autorun entry and the USB entry (which the system thinks is a DVD drive)!

Any answers on firstly why it does this?
Secondly, how I can I do this?
(I suspect this is something to do with the USB hardware or the way in which the files were copied onto the stick)

Cheers ....

I've since found out more about this saga.
The USB drive is partitioned into 2 partitions. The first partiton is formatted as CDFS and therefore looks like a CD drive. Apparently, this is prevalent in free USB drives you get at trade shows etc. They're full of advertisments on the CDFS partition!

Anyone know how to create a USB drive like this?
