USB external drive

i have an RCA Lyra which i think functions on the same drivers as a standard USB drive. I don't know if i can hook it up to my Linux (it shows up as an unrecognized device when i plug it in) and im wondering if anyone could tell me how to do so. (Ex. where to get drivers; cant be done; anyway to use Wine or something like that)
