Hi,

I have broadband going into a USB powered BT Voyager 105 DSL modem.

I now want to share the internet connection with another PC in my house so I purchased a Belkin wireless router.

The documentation says that the wireless router should sit between the DSL modem and the PC however the only cable the DSL modem has is a USB one at the port on teh router for the modem to plug into is RJ-45 ?

Is the only solution to buy another DSL modem ?

You have several choices - all of which involve compromise

1) Change the router you have purchased for one that will connect directly to DSL

2) Setup your first PC to act as a router - then connect it to your wireless router

3) Buy another modem that can sit between the DSL feed and the belkin router.

Given the choice, I would go for 1 above. You will have to make sure that your existing PC can also connect to the new router via ethernet or wireless. Solution 2 above would not involve any further cost but can be messy and difficult to setup unless you fully understand routing.

One other point, keep your Voyager 105 - if you have problems with DSL BT will be much more helpful if you can show the problem with the Voyager connected than an "unsupported" router.

It sounds like you have simply purchased the incorrect product.

BT Broadband is an ADSL service, therefore you need to buy an ADSL Modem/Router. You currently have a very basic ADSL modem (the Voyager)

The router you have is for DSL/Cable, which would get its connection via a patch cable (RJ45) from a cable/dsl modem.

The Adsl Modem/Router will have wireless and a built in switch, and this single unit fully replaces your Voyager modem (you only need the one piece of kit to do everything)

I forgot to mention, your current Voyager modem will have two connections:

Firstly, an RJ11 connection (small jack) from the microfilter to the modem and then USB to the PC.

You will connect the same RJ11 cable to the corresponding port on an ADSL modem/router, but then connect via either wireless or RJ45 patch cable to the PC
