I run win98 and i connecting to internet with usb dsl modem. I planning to share that connection with couple other computers and i already bought Dlink router DI-604, but i realize it has only RJ45 connectors. How I can put these devices working together, is there any adapters available. Ps. That modem has type A usb connector.

If i cant find adapter, what kind device i can use to share dsl internet with three systems? Do i have to change operating system? I can return router, but i cant change modem, what other choices i have available around that kind dsl modem, any ideas?

Hi,

I don't think that there is such a thing as USB->RJ45 adapter (I could very well be wrong). You would be better off by replacing the router if there isn't though.

Try to find a router that uses USB for the WAN and then connects to the computer via RJ45. That is probably going to be your best solution.

Hope this helps! NATE

You could easily go with a USB 4-port hub, assuming that all three pc's have USB ports. That would be your cheapest solution. The disadvantage there would be lack of features (hub vs. router).

I have to agree with Nate that I doubt there are USB -> RJ45 converters out there (that are worth the investment anyway). They are two very different protocols and would require a complex converter that wouldn't be cheap.

You could always lie to your DSL provider about the USB modem being fried and beg for an Ethernet one! [censored] [deejay]

Hey again,

I just found a website that confirms my theory. There is no such thing yet.

This is a clip from
"LinkSys is working on a USB-to-RJ45 adaptor, allowing Linux users to connect USB modems to their Ethernet cards,"

I agree with cdogg a 4hub conector would be the cheapest forgot about that. What's worse is I have one of those but didn't that is could be used that way. LOL

Hope this helps! NATE

Thanks for hints... If i using usb hub, do i connect that dsl modem to one computer and then connect that computer to hub. Do I need to make that computer server or proxyserver? How other computers can connect to internet?

Yes, one disadvantage of a hub is that one computer will have to act as the server sharing the connection. You must have Win98SE or later which has it built in (ICS)... [deejay]
