Hello...I have a real puzzler (at least for me) for you windows experts.
I recently built an XP Pro system for a client and also purchased a Drobo for data storage. The system works well with one exception: the Drobo mounts as an internal drive, not a USB Mass storage device.
So now, we cannot disconnect the drobo: once its plugged in, windows mounts it as an internal disk. No "Safely Remove Hardware" icon shows up in the systray.
The only way we are able to remove it is using the Drobo Dashboard to put the drobo in standby manually, which may or may not work due to XP's behind-the-scenes reading/writing/indexing with the device.
Other USB devices seem to work fine...my thumb drive is mounted as a USB Mass Storage Device, and the Safely Remove Hardware icon appears -- and works.
Is there some setting I messed with that changes the way windows sees the Drobo mass storage device? I have it set to mount the drobo as drive Z:, but other than that I cannot think of any changes I made to the device.
Thanks for your ideas and help,
Robert Carpenter
