USB Drive not working since G5 crashed whie writing to it

External drive buggered after computer crashed while accessing

I was using my external hard drive to back up on, as usual. However, my G5 crashed while writing to the drive. And it hasn't worked ever since.

I have tried using the disk repair utility to re-partition the drive. But the progress bar goes to 2% and stays there, ie it starts trying to partition the drive and then literally sticks there.

The same thing happens on windows by the way. However, there is a utility from Maxtor which tests the drive and says it's physically fine.

I have tried using Disk Warrior but it won't recognise the drive at all...
Hmmm... is there anything else I can try to get the drive formatted?

You say you have tried using Disk Utility to partition the drive. That would indicate that your mac is recognizing it. Have you run Disk utility to check for problems and, if found, to repair before you attempted to partition the thing - wiping info?

Since disk Utility seems to recognize the drive, could you run a simple reformat and initialize before partitioning?

You did not fully expalin what not working means so my answers are based on general problems. If the thing is not mounting on your desktop, try turning off your computer, unplug the drive from the machine, turn the computer back on and plug the dirive into a different usb port. If you've already wiped info for partitioning, It probably won't work but you can give it a try.
