I have Win7 64 and a 500GB USB drive does not show up in Windows Explorer. It shows up in Device Manager as OEM EXT HARD DISK USB DEVICE everything is up to date and enabled, the "this device is working properly" is there and it shows that it can be ejected with the "Safely remove Hardware" option. Also it shows up in "Devices and Printers".

It is a USB 3 Drive that was working fine on a USB 3 port and on a USB 2 port on this computer, but now it does not show in Windows Explorer in either one USB 2 or 3.

I have tried to use "this drive" on other computers and laptops and it works without any problems what so ever.

Any help or ideas on how to make it show up or why this is happening on my computer?

Thanks ...

I have uninstalled and installed again with no avail.

The problem that I have is that I can't see it in Windows Explorer thus I can not change anything. Is there another way of Changing the Drive letter?

Thanks.

Have you looked in Drive Management?

Right Click on Computer and choose Manage.

In the Window that opens go down to Drive Management see if your drive shows up there, and see if there are any warnings or errors about it.

Vacunita got there and the Drive letter for that drive was (*). Changed it to N: and it showed up in windows explorer.

Is that something !!!! Thanks so much for helping me out.

BadBigBen I started to think in the right direction which was "It does not have a Drive Letter!!!!"

Thanks for all the help, I wonder: how does that happen???

Glad you got it to work.

As for drive letters disappearing, sometimes more than one device can take the same drive letter hiding the other. Specially noticeable when you have network drives, as they'll take over the drive letters of other devices if required.
