Hi all,

Got a Sony laptop (R600HFPD).

Need to boot up an XP cd to format the laptop. Using a USB Floppy drive which boots fine as the USB CDROM wont boot. Cant seem to find a sys file that will recognise the USB CDROM. Its a AOpen EHB-5232U external USB 2.0 CDRW/DVD.

Any pointers on this would be great! Cant use a generic USB driver to detect the CDROm as that cuts off the USB floppy and ends with a COMMAND.COM lost error.

Thanks in advance

Before you try that, have you considered networking the laptop by cat5 to a desktop or other laptop with a functioning device to set up the CD drive?

I have all of the apparatus which I would gladly sell, but it's costly and a pain in the neck to use a floppy just for installation. It's so much easier just to network (make a temporary work group).

I usually use Norton Ghost, and have successfully ghosted an image across problem was the image kept crashing so its making me wonder if this laptop is ok or not. All that was on the image was a formatted drive and the XP setup files.

But i will try your suggestion, thanks.
