Hi out there in G4/Premiereland. Recently my gov dept got latest G4 (400mhz etc)/ OS 9.1 with Premiere 5.1, Aurora capture card and 40 gigs of memory - all looked well.

Test captures off DV camera work well, however 99% comes off SVHS (domestic) Panasonic VCR.

This is where our problem is: the latest G4 (unbeknown to our supplier) doesnt include on the back of the g4 the (old fashioned) RCA input or output for sound off our SVHS VCR (domestic Panasonic - SVHS cables send picture only, so use RCAs on back of VCR).

Our supplier subsequently supplied a third party USB sound mic/output device using minijacks - we have tried two types now: 1) iMic 9Griffen Technologies - multiple audio formats, low total harmonic, typical 85db, one stereo line / mono mic input') also 2) iVoice (Macally - 'syst. req.MacOS 9.0.4, Apple Audio Extension v1.0.9 or later MacOS,).

What happens when we capture sound using either of these devices is a 'swamping' effect that or in the casee of iMic 20% vol or 100plus volume - either way unusable.

Choosing different hertz levels off 'General Settings' seems to have no effect at all, tried all that, while the 'Capture' window only lets you find the 'Source' and lower the 'gain' , again adjusting these settings over numerous tests resulted in no difference - just the swamping sound.

Does anyone out there know what to do about this as local Mac people here dont seem to know while Adobe manual gives no glues for a g4 using a usb sound device with Premiere.

Looking forward to hearing if anyone else is experiencing these problems, cheers, Tim85
