US Robotics 56k Voice Win

I have an old US Robotics 3Com Voice Win modem which I would like to use for fax. Windows XP Home sp2 recognises it as "US Robotics 56K Voice Win 1806" and tells me that it's working. But I can't connect. I use a broadband ISP and don't want to have to pay extra for dial-up. My questions are: is the modem incompatible with XP and, if not, what am I doing wrong? I ran a diagnostic and have a large report which I can submit to this forum if necessary. Thanks in advance.

Boardband is ADSL line where the modem you have will only work on a Dial Up connection,it not XP thats not working also check for listen for dial tone is switched off
