Hi Everyone, got a werid problem, my friend has a windows xp home pc with himself his wife and son as users. His wife pointed out to me that when she types an email she cannot use the @ key, she's got to use the 2(") key to get an @ !! Checked Regional and Language options in control panel! its set to UK and not US..so I decided to change it around and set it to US reboot and then change it back- reboot..didnt work still US keyboard layout and still showing UK! - so I checked my friends account its set to UK also but it is using the UK keyboard layout!!. Any ideas? this is driving me nuts!!. thanks

There are quite a few settings in that area. I have never touched any so I don't know what the consequences are when changed. Are you saying that the computer has always been this way or is it in or brought from the UK.

Are you logging in as Administrator when you change the Keyboard settings to UK?

In the Regional and Language dialog, did you select the Language tab and click on the DETAILS button? Does it display "English (United Kingdom - Keyboards - United Kingdom"?

Control Panel/ Regional and Languages Options/ Here you make sure the settings adjacent to the Customize Button and the settings for Location are correct.

Proceed to the Languages/ Details/ Here you make sure the Default Input Language is correct.
Under Installed Services make sure the correct Keyboard is selected and in the top position. To add the United Kingdom keyboard if it is not listed use the Add button. This will bring up the Add Input Language window. Here you make sure that the Input Language is correct and that the Keyboard layout/IME is set to the United Kingdom.

You can use the Remove button on the previous page to remove any incorrect keyboards.

The Text Services and Input Languages page "Displays the languages and text services that are installed and loaded into memory when you start your computer. Text services include keyboard layouts, Input Method Editors (IMEs), and handwriting and speech recognition options. IMEs are programs that are used for entering East Asian language characters using a keyboard.
Click Add to install additional languages and text services. To delete an option, select it and click Remove. You must have at least one text service."
