URL without port #

Does anyone know how to config the URL?

http://XX.XX.XX.XX/

instead of

http://XX.XX.XX.XX:8080

as the URL



people can access the URL without port # (8080 ....)

P.S. XX.XX.XX.XX means IP address or domain.

set it to port 80, then you can have URL without port#.

Port 80 is a *reserved* port for http servers - ie web servers. When you hit "

http://www.acme.com"

it is actually doing "

http://www.acme.com:80"

- because the default port for http is port 80.

Port 8080 is non-reserved but is typically used by Tomcat for listening for httpd requests- either directly probing that port, or forwarded from apache, or similar web server.

Your two choices are :
1) Change your TOMCAT_HOME/conf/server.xml file to listen to port 80 instead of port 8080 (search for "8080" in this file)
2) Install a web server, and redirect non-static page requests to Tomcat.
