This may be a question for an IIS forum but it is in my sharepoint site.

When through the web I try to hit the site with the ip address like or it doesn't work (that isn't the actual ip address).

But if I do or it works.

This causes the links not to work also when you click from one subsite to another with the sharepoint website.

But when I am actually setting on the server box and I click the links or not type the full url without the 'default.aspx', it works.

Any ideas as to why it won't work externally through web pages. IIS setting, router setting???

I am more of a programmer who is also now acting as administrator for this work and feeling my way through.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Check to make sure that Default.aspx is listed as a possible default document in IIS.

Open IIS Manager on the Server
Expand down to the Web-App (Virtual directory) in questions.
Right Click - Properties
Click the documents tab.
Make sure Enable Default Document is checked and default.aspx is in that list. If it isn't click add and add it.

I should have mentioned that I had already checked on that and it is checked and default.aspx is in the list.

Is the IP address in SharePoints Alternate Address Mappings? If not, add it there
