Citrix MF XP on Windows 2000, SP4. Outlook 2003.

In Outlook 2003, if I already have IE open, clicking on a link within an e-mail does not work. If I close IE, clickin in the link opens IE with the page. Any suggestions on where to look to fix this?

IT's to do with Dynamic Data Exchange DDE
Details in here

I copied what you want to do here:

1. Click Start and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
3. Navigate to the ddeexec registry subkey under the following registry key:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\htmlfile\shell\opennew
4. Click the ddeexec registry subkey and then delete it.
5. Navigate to the command registry subkey under the following registry key:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\htmlfile\shell\opennew
6. Double click the Default value in the right hand pane.
7. Add a "%1" to the end of the string so that it looks like the following:
"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" %1
8. Click OK.
9. Close the Registry Editor.

Hope this helps.

That seems to have done the trick. Though I also had to make the same change to:

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\htmlfile\shell\open]

Spoke too soon. It is not working consistently. I cannot successfully click on all links within an e-mail. Some times it works and sometimes it does not.

Even after making the registry changes and after rebooting. I don't understand why clicking on a link within an e-mail can work sometimes, but not others.

If I had only actually followed the first TID exactly. I revised the one key, but did not delete the ddexec key. Once that was done everything was fine.
