Hi guys, I am having problems with absolute links. When I try to copy and paste a URL into the link box provided in the Properties, If the URL has any of the these characters like [,],+ in the HTML code
[ is replaced by %5B
] is replaced by %5D
+ replaced by %2B
a space by %20 and dreamweaver seems to replace these automatically in the HTML code. The hyperlink does not seem to work unless you delete and replace these % signs with appropriate characters. Can somebody help me figure out why dreamweaver does this automatically

Dreamweaver does this automatically so as to (oddly enough) keep the links working. Some browsers (Netscape for instance) don't know what to do with a space in a URL, so Dreamweaver is inserting the code for the character rather than the character itself. Those percent-blahblahblah bits aren't gibberish, they're code for special characters.

It's odd that the links still aren't working, and I don't know why that would be. My only suggestion would be (assuming you have control over the site/sites you're linking to) to rename those directories and files in a way that doesn't employ spaces or nonstandard characters. That's generally good coding practice, and preemptively eliminates such problems as you're having right now.

Does the link "not seem to work" when using Preview In Browser locally, or when you pull up the page from the server? Just curious ... I'm not sure if that should make a difference or not.

thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately, I do not have control over these links, since these links are to a specific page of a huge database which is controlled by a totally different group.
The link does not seem to work with the Preview In Browser as well as when the page is pulled from the server unless you manually change the code.
