URGENT: Using An AutoLoader With GFS Enabled

Hi All,

Sorry for the urgent request but I'm absolutely stuck. The scenario we currently have is a DELL PW2300 server used for storing all our development code. In terms of a backup device we have a Sony TSL-9000 8-tape autoloader that is being used with ARCServeIT 6.61 for NT AE.

What I want to be able to do is to use ARCServe's own GFS rotation system. The added complication here is that a full system backup uses 2 DDS3 tapes and an incremental backup will fit on 1 DDS2 tape.

With this in mind I want to force ARCServeIT to use a 5 day weekly incremental backup, full backup on Friday, with GFS enabled. This would mean forcing ARCServeIT to use slots 1 and 2 for our full backup on a Friday and the rest of the slots (3-7) would be used for Mon-Thur incremental backups.

Can this be done? If so could someone please give me a step by step guide or give me a URL etc for the information required?

TIA,
Rab.

Should not be a problem, although I want to mention that using GFS is only really good if you have a library that has 21 slots (you need 21 tapes for the standard GFS job). Also there are 3 media pools when dealing with a GFS job and it will become confusing to make sure you have the correct tapes in place when you manually need to switch. I recommend using a rotational job they have in place (5 day incremental with full backup on Friday seems to be what you want). Note the first day you run the job a full backup will be performed. Also if you ever modify the job, ARCserve actually submits a new job in place of the old one and a full backup will be performed again. After you select the 5 day incremental backup, start with all blank tapes in the autoloader and ARCserve should take care of the rest. If you need to store tapes on the side, you can increase the retention time of the media pool to 13 days (for two weeks ==> 14 days -1).

Good Luck
