A person was adding and deleitng lines to the web.log file in After doint this the share point site no longer works and we get an error in the event viewer displaying unable to connect to sts_config database. Is there a line in the web.log file that he may have deleted on accident? We hav tried the Shareoiunt timer service fix but that doesn't seem to be thw problem. Thank you.

Here is the exact error:
#50070: Unable to connect to the database STS_Config on P04-SHARE\SharePoint. Check the database connection information and make sure that the database server is running.

The database is on the same computer the sharepoint site is hosted on.

It looks likt the problem is something else. When we navigate to the site there is the message:
"Server Application Unavailable. The web application you are attempting to access on this web server is currently unavailable. Please hit the "Refresh" button in your web browser to retry your request.

Administrator Note: An error message detailing the cause of this specific request failure can be found in the application event log of the web server. Please review this log entry to discover what caused this error to occur."

any ideas what might cause this error?

Hello,

Don't you have the file on backup? Then you could restore the file from the date when you know your site was working.

Or if you know what has changed in the web.log file you shopuld comment out those changes and see if that brings your site online again?

I have been doing changes to the web.config file in WSS and that has caused similar problems. And as we all know, always take backups before making any changes ;)

Regards,
Thomas
