Can anybody tell me how I can restrict French user access to certain areas on our server, at the same time allowing them to use the usual commands and databases like informix

I looked at using restricted shell (rsh) but found that the cd command was blocked , I hoped users could use cd within their own directories, but that was not so

I have a dilema, and getting desparate

Does anyone have any ideas how this could be achieved ?

From what I've heard (although never having used it myself), I understand chroot might be what you require. Suggest you do a search of this forum and/or google to find out more. I think it effectively 'jails' users in certain areas. Best of luck.

I'm not familiar with "chroot", but as they say "you learn evrey day"
