Urgent Question

I'm looking at making a test domain which is a direct copy of our current domain. I've read about joining it to our current ad as a domain controller then unplugging it and bringing it back in the test environment. Then I need to remove the referent to it in the producation network etc.

My question though is does this machine need to be global catalog server as well as a dc or just a dc?
