Hi,

Some of the users of a database are not being able to see the data when they select the rows of a table.

Some of the users are able to see the data correctly but for other users, all they see is Binary written in each field in each row. However the ID field is showing the correct data. The data types of each of the columns showing the Binary data type is not Binary. They are nvarchar, etc.

Any help??

Is the collation the same on all the machines? If not make sure clients have the same as the server or use the proper collation punctually.

Are you using characters that are not english? If not do not use nvarchar datatype.

The collation name is the same on all machines and the data is in english. This is a problem which has occured in the past week. It was not a problem before.

What application is being used here? Are the user's seeing the "bad" data in Query Analyzer or in an application window?

I am seeing the bad data in Enterprise Manager. The data is fine in Query Analyser.

I have been talking to a colleague and he informed me that he came across this problem before too. He encountered this when he installed SQLBase client. I tried to install this client and driver last week too and since then this problem has occured.

He informed me that he was able to fix the problem but it was some time ago and he can't remember how he did it. It seems that Enterprise Manager is corrupted and not the data.

Reinstalling SQL Server will fix this problem but on a production system with multiple databases, this is not an option for me.

Just reinstall enterprise manager then. if just em is corrupt, reinstall the client tools.

Sounds like your close to a solution here.

Is it safe to assume that you installed SQLBase on the other client systems that are experiencing the same issue?

You could run SQL setup and choose to install the client tools again. This should either repair or replace the SEM on the client. It might be worthwhile to take some kind of snapshot of the registry and/or executables that are being affected by both the SEM installation and the SQLBase installation.

Only the systenms that have had SQLBase installed are facing this problem. I am currently working out an implementation plan to reinstall the client tools. It may take a while to get approval for all this.

I'll post back and let you know how it goes.

Thanks for all the help.
