Hello everybody.

1. I am new to the DBA, Can anybody help me Regarding Tuning Rollback Segments and Tuning I/O and CPU Resources.I am working on HP-UX 11, WITH ORACLE 8.
2. I ALSO NEED some help on how many redo log files can i have, and where can i set the number of the redo logfiles, and how big the redo logfiles can be.

3. my database is very slow how can i make it faster, what area should i look for.

Thanks,

The number of REDO log files is controlled by the MAXLOGFILES parameter that is specified when the database is created (refer to CREATE DATABASE command). The size if REDO log files is controlled by the file size specified when creating the LOGFILE GROUP (all GROUP MEMBERS are created using the same file size). Ifyou want to change the size of a REDO LOG FILE, then CREATE A NEW REDO LOG GROUP specifying an larger file size, then DROP the old REDO LOG GROUP/MEMBERS. There is no ALTER LOG FILE SIZE command.
For info regarding tuning ROLLBACK SEGMENTS, CPU and IO, you would need to specify a lot more info about your hardware configuration. Have you considered having a DBA consultant coe in for a week or two to tune the box/database and train you in tuning/monitoring techniques?
